TRIVIA NIGHT A HUGE SUCCESS

What a fantastic night! Congratulations to Tom Melvin and friends on winning the major prize, I hope you guys enjoy the Australian Open (tennis).

Thank you to Travis Wheeler of Karaoke Krazy who was our mc and quiz master, what a fantastic job. If you are involved in other groups wanting to run a trivia night I can highly recommend Travis, he did a fantastic job.

MOVEMBER GROWS ON CAMMA

The club would like to congratulate Chris Camenzuli on his embarrassing 1970's porn star mo which he grew as part of Movember. His fundraising results were much better than his mo with over $1,000 raised. Chris would like to thank all club members for their generous support.

PAUL JOINS THE COMMITTEE

The Melton South committee welcomes Paul Davies to our ranks. Paul has two sons playing junior cricket as well as captaining our fourth XI and will be a great asset to the committee and the club.

EXTRA SENIOR TEAM

The Club has entered an extra senior team in the WSUCCA competition in response to the continued increase in playing numbers. The new team brings the total senior teams at the club to six making South the the largest senior club in Melton.

South will now have two teams in A grade, one in B grade, one in C grade and two in D grade.

DEAN SCORES A RARE DOUBLE

15 year old Dean Pirro scored a rare double that has never been acheived at South. In Round 4 playing against top of the table Hoppers Crossing who won the toss and elected to bat Dean came on second change with Hoppers on 2/37. His spell was a delight to watch and was simply to good for the opposition, taking 8/50. Even more amazing was that 7 of the 8 wickets were clean bowled with final wicket being lbw.

Chasing Hoppers total of 124, Dean came in first drop with South on 1/19 and followed on his good bowling with some equally impressive batting. He compiled 116 runs to ensure victory for his team. His 116 included 13 fours and 6 sixes.

JESS FOLLOWS UP ON CLUB RECORD

Senior bowler, Jess Vaiano, set a new club record in Round 3. Jess had the amazing figures of 9/53 from 25 overs in the second innings of D Grade White's outright victory over Williamstown Congs. He also took 5/32 in the first innings to return match figures of

14 wickets for 85 runs from 42.4 overs including 16 maidens.

In the Round 4 match he was only marginally less destructive taking 7/56 from 20 overs to continue his fantastic form. He has now taken 25 wickets in the 3 matches that D Grade have played this season.

ENGAGED

Travis Wheeler, owner of Karaoke Krazy who sponsor the club and former junior player, Emma Scilini are engaged after Travis popped the question whilst they holidayed in the US recently. Congratulations Travis and Emma.

GRANT OBTAINED FOR HONOUR BOARD

Melton South has been successful in obtaining a grant from the Melton Shire Council for an honour board to be erected in the clubrooms. We hope to have it in place for the start of the new season.

BLAKE IVORY APPOINTED ASSISTANT COACH

The committee are extremely pleased to announce that Blake Ivory has accepted an offer to take up the role of Assistant Senior Coach for the coming season. We firmly believe that Blake's experience and knowledge will be a huge benefit to the club as our 1st eleven move into the WSUCCA turf competition and the second and third eleven also step up a grade. Blake will be work specifically with our bowlers and I'm sure that our talented young bowlers will improve significantly under Blake's guidance. Blake will continue to play with Melton in the sub-district competition as well as his other coaching committments with Melton West Saints Under 16's and Western Spirit representative teams.

NETS FOR MT CARBERRY

Melton Shire Council announced their final budget on Monday 22 June 2009 which included funding for cricket nets to be contructed at Mt Carberry. It is hoped that the nets will be ready by October 2009. Senior and junior players will certainly appreciate the improved training facilities.

SENIOR COACH RE-APPOINTED

The committee are happy to report that senior coach, Leigh Edwards, has been re-appointed for the next two seasons. Congratulations Leigh on a great first year as senior coach and good luck with the challenges ahead as we head into a new season with our first eleven moving into the WSUCCA turf competition.
